Hi folks.

My new toys arrived last week and I've had lots of fun shooting with the M645. It's a lovely piece of kit, very well made and there is something very satisfying about winding the film on with the crank-handle. It's noisy, heavy and completely impractical, but I love it.

Processing 120 film is ... interesting ... in the way that a visit to dentist is interesting – you never know just how much pain will be involved.

Notes to self:
Don't change film at noon, on the sunniest day of the year, in the middle of a field with no shade – this will fog the film.
Make sure the processing spiral is dry, dust-bowl/Egyptian-mummy dry – or it will jam.

Hopefully I'll have something to post from the new cam next week.

I love it but :noes: it needs servicing - the shutter needs adjusting :(

did I remember right that you were getting a new neg scanner? what do/will you use?

Yes. I bought an Epson V500. Much better than the Plustek 7300 I had.

I have acquired almost everything I need for B&W neg development (just lacking darkness) but getting anything printed looks like an expensive hassle, maybe only worth it for specific shots

Printed - do you mean darkroom prints or scan and print? Darkroom printing, yep lots of hassles and not something I want to get into :)
Compared to the convenience of digital, film is always going to be more expensive and more hassle but I think the results are worth it.

yeah, darkroom printing. I know a place I can do it but even going there would be a bit of a pain. Might do it once for fun if I have some decent negs to play with. Used to do it a loooong time ago. But mostly I am too busy to even think about it.

It might be fun to do some printing again – just for old times’ sake. No, I must resist the temptation – it’s too much hassle and expense, and I’m happy with the results I’m getting from soup ‘n scan :)

I think so. Might give it a shot, and my daughter did it recently enough to remember what to do. Have to get my ass in gear and develop negs first though! Digital makes you lazy :)
